Melody & Maybelline | Fallbrook Horse and Rider Session

Updated: Dec 6, 2019

Melody and I met through a mutual friend and clicked right away! She is an absolute sweetheart, quick to offer a helping hand, and one of those people who are just happy! Maybelline and Melody have been together for 15 years; since Melody was 12 years old! They compete in endurance rides together and will be traveling to Utah and Montana this summer to ride!

We were planning her session for a Sunday evening, but it had been cloudy all day so we decided to postpone. She still invited me over to her house and we went for a ride together that evening instead! Wednesday the weather cleared up and I am so glad we waited! We started the session around her charming Fallbrook neighborhood. Olive green is my current favorite color and the combination of her shirt with these cacti was perfect!

The week before her session, Melody had posted a video on facebook of her on a trail ride through these gorgeous fields full of flowers! As soon as I saw it, I knew we HAD to go there! After we were done in the neighborhood, we drove Mabe over to a local trail. A quick change in the trailer tack room, and a short walk down the hill and this is the view that greeted us! I clicked the first couple of photos and just about cried, they were so beautiful! I don't know a better word to use besides "magic"! I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

The sun set behind the hills and we were about to start walking back to the trailer when I said, "Here, let me hold Mabe and we'll take a couple of just you!" I'm so glad I did because these photos of Melody are simply stunning! She is a natural in front of the camera and was totally working it!

Many people have heard of "golden hour" light, which is the hour or two before sunset or after sunrise when the sun is low in the sky and light is glow-y and warm. But did you know there is such thing "blue hour" too? Blue hour is the twilight time after the sun sets. It is still light outside, but there is no direct sun and the light has a softer blue tone to it. The evening clouds rolling in over the distant hills, combined with blue hour lighting made for the perfect finish to our time together! This session was so special because of the long time relationship between Melody and Maybelline. I'm so glad that I got to capture their love for one another and that she will get to enjoy these images for years to come.
